Let’s cut to the chase: we’re really, really stoked that Parm, Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone’s casual Italian/American ode to hero sandwiches, baked clams, and heaps of pasta, has an outpost in our backyard, because we love to eat all of those things. But really, it’s the ice cream cake that is making us crazy. Tucked into a corner at Brookfield Place, the eatery is spot-on for chowing down at lunch or dinner, but dessert is really where it’s at: colorful, speckled with sprinkles and topped with maraschino cherries, these cakes have caused us to make up basically any reason to celebrate just about anything. It’s as if the Carvel cakes of your childhood grew up, and transformed into sophisticated flavor parties like Peach Melba, Banana Bread, and the Italian favorite Tiramisu. The roomy dining room is guaranteed to be a kiddo birthday hotspot, but most grownups we know who have sampled the delights are over the moon about them, too—how could you not lose your mind over their over-the-top decadence?
Don’t get us wrong: the eggplant parm is to die for. But man. Ice cream cake for the win.
