The Matt Bernson brand is grounded in New York City both physically and spiritually. We design (chic and comfortable) shoes with real New York City women in mind.
With that spirit, we have collaborated on a new project with like minded New York City-based fashion and lifestyle conscious women, our “MBMuses”, in order to learn from the experiences of the women we admire and who constantly inspire us. While a Matt Bernson Muse has innately good taste and style, it is her sense of adventure, intellect, and confidence that truly make her stand out from the crowd.
Founder and CEO of The Style Line, Rachel Schwartzmann is always on the go! Learn about what influences her style and how New York City has shaped her as an entrepreneur.
Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
Sure! My name is Rachel Schwartzmann and I am the Founder and CEO of The Style Line. We are a media company that aims to show how important of a role personal style plays in our lives. Through our stories and partnerships we hope to cultivate a conversation that shows young creative people that they can leave an imprint in the world simply by doing what they love. Under The Style Line umbrella we also launched our first subsidiary brand CONNECT(ED)ITORIAL which is an extension of what we do on The Style Line – we build and maintain dynamic blogs and editorial platforms for brands! So basically my life involves a lot of content, but on a more human level, it is all about great storytelling, amazing people and authentic connection.
In a nutshell, outside of work I enjoy traveling, eating way too many carbs, drinking way too much coffee and spending time with friends.
Where do you find your fashion and style inspiration?
From editors to artists I find so much inspiration from our interviewees and my industry peers whose bold approach to style can’t be matched! I also have a few celebrity style icons (including the Olsens, Emma Watson, and Elle Fanning).
How does living in NYC influence your style?
Absolutely! I grew up here but even still, my style has become much more refined as I’ve gotten older and I think working with and interacting with such sophisticated city dwellers has helped me find my own sartorial voice. I would describe my style now as being classic-cool with an eclectic twist.
What are some of your favorite spots in the city?
I grew up in Astoria, Queens and have watched it transform, so while there I love stopping by Astoria Park (and Sek’end Sun for a bite!). In Long Island City I love the waterfront, Sweetleaf and PS1 Moma. In the city I spend way too much time at Cafe Orlin indulging in avocado toast and their insanely amazing hot chocolate. Closer to home in Brooklyn I love spending time at Prospect Park, Cafe Grumpy, Bird, Catbird and so much more.
Favorite movie you watched recently?
I finally saw Misty Copeland’s documentary A Ballerina’s Tale and as a former dancer found a lot of inspiration in her story.
I’m always late to the party with TV shows but I follow HBO’s shows pretty extensively and love Westworld, Game of Thrones, Last Night Tonight with John Oliver and Real Time with Bill Maher. On Netflix I love Orange Is The New Black, Stranger Things and I’m actually really excited for the Gilmore Girls special…
Last book you read and loved?
I devoured so many amazing books this summer including The Clasp by Sloane Crosley, Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler (phenomenal read!) and The Girls by Emma Cline.
Favorite place to vacation?
I don’t really vacation that often but my boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday this past September in Palm Springs which was AMAZING. Closer to home I love weekend trips to Upstate New York – especially during the Fall!
